Test day: managing your time section by section
Listening then Reading: how long per part, when to guess, how to stay calm on exam day.
The TOEIC lasts 2 hours: 45 minutes of Listening then 75 minutes of Reading, with no break. Time management often makes the difference between two candidates of the same level.
Listening: the pace is set for you
In the Listening section, the audio dictates the tempo — you don't choose your speed. The key: stay focused and never dwell on a missed question.
Reading: the clock is yours to manage
This is where it all plays out. An effective split of the 75 minutes:
- Part 5 (30 questions): ~12 minutes
- Part 6 (16 questions): ~10 minutes
- Part 7 (54 questions): ~53 minutes
When to guess
About 10 minutes from the end, check where you stand. If many questions remain, switch to "fast answer" mode: read the question, scan, choose. And above all:
Managing stress
Breathe before you start. If a question blocks you, it's fine: one question doesn't make your score. Move on, keep the rhythm, and finish the whole paper.
