What it assesses

A sentence with a gap, four options. It tests grammar (tenses, prepositions, agreement) and vocabulary.

Format and flow

30 standalone sentences. It's the fastest part to handle if your basics are solid — manage your time to keep some for Part 7.

Common traps

  • Picking "what sounds right" without analysing;
  • Confusing word types (noun / adjective / adverb);
  • Prepositions and collocations.

Strategy

  • Spot what's tested (grammar or vocabulary);
  • Analyse the function of the missing word;
  • Move fast: about 20–30 s per question.
